Gehringer Classic Riesling 2004
VQA Okanagan Valley $12.00
Floral and sweet honeycomb aromas greet the lucky taster of this well made, well priced B.C. beauty.
There are gobs of tropical fruit and tangy citrus flavours in this light-bodied offering and the finish
carries through with more of the same. It is nicely balanced and would marry well with sashimi or a
tuna ceviche. Rod Phillips
Legends Estate Winery Riesling Semi-Dry 2003
VQA Niagara Peninsula $12.95 (621854)
A muted nose of mineral and lime sets up this off dry, medium-bodied beauty. The attack on the palate is
a glorious sweet and sour tang that one usually associates with well-made wines from the Mosel or Rheingau.
This would be a lovely sipping wine on the patio, but if yours is covered with fluffy white stuff, try it
with spicy Asian or curried dishes. Not familiar with this winery? Get acquainted now.

Henry of Pelham Off-Dry Riesling Reserve 2004
VQA Niagara Peninsula $14.95 (557165)
Released in Vintages late 2005, and available from the winery, this is a well-paced off-dry Riesling
that you can cellar for five or more years. It’s rich now, with a range of tropical fruit and honeyed
notes, and with crisp, clean acidity. The finish is a long tail of tropical and white grapefruit.

Schloss Schönborn Riesling Kabinett 1996
QmP Rheingau
What a glorious opportunity to taste an aged wine at an attractive price point! This low
alcohol (8.6%) Riesling typifies why many experts consider it the greatest grape of them all.
The nose delivers that petrol, mineral, floral bouquet and the rich creamy palate delivers wave
after wave of sweet (peach and nectarine) and bracing (lemony) flavours. The finish is lengthy
and luxurious. Serve on its own as a fabulous welcoming wine or pair with tandoori chicken from
now to 2012. Stock up. Vic Harradine
Pewsey Vale Riesling 2004
Eden Valley, South Australia
The planted vines are 35 years old, but all propagated from those brought to Australia by James
Busby (recognized father of Australian wine) in 1839. An exuberant nose of floral notes and citrus
forms the segue to this medium-bodied, cool climate dazzler. It provides a robust mouthful of fruit
flavours with citrus and mango to the fore. This is dry, clean and well structured. Drink now to
2012 with light cheeses or smoked fish. Vic Harradine
Lingenfelder "Bird Label" Riesling 2004
QmP Pfalz
Bottles of Rainer Lingenfelder's ornithological labels are deservedly sought after because they
offer excellent quality at very good prices. This off-dry Riesling, which pairs beautifully with
medium-spiced Thai dishes, is a perfect example. You get lovely, rich fruit (tropical, melon, citrus),
zesty acidity, and great balance. It's a perfect pick-me-up for dreary winter days, too; open a
bottle and sip it before dinner. Rod Phillips
